Hutan Harapan is the first formal initiative in Indonesia for ecosystem restoration. This is a global and unique collaboration led by Burung Indonesia, The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Birdlife International. This collaborative ecosystem restoration initiative in Hutan Harapan aims to:
- Creating a brighter future for forests, wildlife, and people by connecting local communities, national conservation organizations, and governments;
- Protect, restore and ensure the sustainability of 98,555 hectares of habitat for Sumatra’s lowland rainforest;
- Provide a restoration model to assist and encourage similar initiatives in Indonesia and elsewhere.
