Hutan Harapan (HH) is one of the last remaining examples of lowland rainforest in Sumatra and has been internationally recognised as important for biodiversity since it contains many rare and endangered species. Hutan Harapan has with 1,931 species a very rich biodiversity, consisting of 1,311 flora and 620 fauna species. As many as 43 flora species are endemic to Sumatra, 10 are protected species and a total of 46 species are on the IUCN Red List because they are globally threatened. In addition, 12 species belong to Appendix I and 64 species to Appendix II of CITES. Of the spectacular number of 620 fauna species, 105 species are on the IUCN Red List including Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), Helmeted hornbill (Rhinoplax vigil), pangolin (Manis javanica), Sumatran elephant, (Elephas maximus sumatranus), and tapir (Tapirus indicus).

Yayasan Konservasi Ekosistem Hutan Indonesia (Yakehi) seeks a dedicated and qualified Forest Planning Assistant and Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting assistant to join PT REKI’s Forest Planning, Monitoring Evaluation and Knowledge Management Department. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the Department Manager in developing and implementing comprehensive forest management plans for PT. REKI, ensuring the sustainable use of forest resources and conducts monitoring and evaluation activities and prepares reports for government and donors.

1. FOREST PLANNING ASSISTANT

1.Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Forest Planning Department manager in developing comprehensive forest management plans that incorporate diverse stakeholders’ needs and interests.
  • Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of forest data, including creation of maps, reports, and other supporting documents for forest management plans.
  • Analyze and interpret data to inform silvicultural prescriptions for sustainable forest management practices
  • Conduct field inspections to monitor the implementation of forest management plans and identify any issues or concerns and propose solutions for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of forest management plans.
  • Identify any issues or concerns related to plan implementation and propose solutions for improvement.
  • Research and stay up-to-date on current trends and best practices in forest management.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on forest management plans to stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

2. Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry (strongly preferred) or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of forest planning, forest ecology and silviculture.
  • Experience with GIS and forest inventory data analysis.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working in a field environment.

3. Reporting and supervision

The Forest Planning Assistant will report directly to the Forest Planning, Monev & Knowledge Management Manager. The Assistant will be responsible for providing regular updates on the progress of assigned tasks and for seeking guidance and clarification as needed.

4. Duration of Assignment

The duration of the assignment will be 4 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance.

2. MONITORING, EVALUATION AND REPORTING ASSISTANT

1. Purpose of the Position

The Monitoring Evaluation and Restoration assistant will provide technical support to the Forest Planning Manager in carrying out the following tasks:

1.1 Data Collection and Management:

  • Collect and compile data from various sources, including field reports, surveys, interviews, and remote sensing data.
  • Enter data into the M&E system and ensure its accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and implement data quality assurance procedures

1.2 Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze data using appropriate statistical methods and software.
  • Prepare progress reports, performance monitoring reports, and evaluation reports.
  • Develop data visualizations and charts to present findings clearly and concisely.

1.3 M&E System Development and Maintenance:

  • Support the development and implementation of M&E tools and templates.
  • Maintain and update the M&E system database.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to the M&E system.

1.4 Other Tasks:

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Forest Planning Manager

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Forest Planning Manager in developing and implementing the Annual Workplan and Budget (AWPB) for PT. REKI .
  • Collect, compile, and manage data on various aspects of the compliance (government and donor).
  • Analyze data to assess the progress and performance based on AWPB.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on the findings of the M&E activities.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to AWPB implementation based on M&E findings.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in M&E for forest restoration.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with the Forest Planning Manager.

3. Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry or a related field (fresh graduates Fresh graduates are welcome with relevant coursework or research experience)
  • Strong knowledge of forest planning, forest ecology and silviculture.
  • Excellent data management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, ArcGIS).
  • Strong communication and writing skills in Indonesian and English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
